NEW ZEALAND &#8211, The rapid growth in dairy production on the South Island has spurred New Zealand Dairy Group to invest a further $160 million (77 million euro) in its Edendale and Clandeboye milk processing sites.

The money will finance the construction of a new 72 million euro milk powder plant at Edendale, near Invercargill, in time for the 2002/03 season, and a 5 million euro expansion of processing capacity at the Clandeboye site, near Timaru.

The new facilities will provide extra processing capacity for the projected milk growth in the South Island which is expected to double within five years from ten million litres to more than 20 million litres per day.
