Glanbia takes on Dairy Crest contracts
Glanbia is to take over the purchase and processing responsibilities for direct milk supplies to Dairy Crest’s Fermanagh creamery in Ireland from 1 December 2000. Dairy Crest announced the closure of Fermanagh in its interim results last month and cheesemaking will cease at the factory on 30 November.
By relieving Dairy Crest of its contractual obligations towards 174 farmers, Glanbia can expect to receive an extra 30 million litres of milk a year. Volume will be used as part of a wider group milk procurement strategy for the north east of Ireland where customer demand for dairy products is strong.
Glanbia is the leading supplier of pizza cheese to the Europe and has strong global demand for formulated milk products. In addition, the company is the exclusive supplier of cream base for the liquor Baileys.
