Dutch super co-operative Friesland Coberco has warned that the fall-out from the Belgian dioxin crisis will seriously hit its 1999 profits.
The company recorded profits of r23.25 million in the first half of this year, well down on the r34 million achieved during the same period last year. Sales were r2 billion, 3.2% lower than in the same period in 1998 Besides the dioxin crisis, Friesland chiefs said there has been a fall in prices for generic products, such as powdered milk, whey, butter and cheese.
