Germans display a sweet tooth

Germany saw stable demand for cheese but a continued rise in sales for sweet dairy products in 1998, according to the results of an annual shopper survey carried out by the market researcher CMA.
Total spend by each household in the country on dairy products was r278, 1% up on 1997. Butter made up 13% of this spend, cheese 35% and yogurt 13%. Drinking milk, which is listed apart from other dairy products, claimed 21% of the wallet in the fresh produce sector.
