British milk bottles are mostly recycled, says study
A recycling study from British plastic recycling charity Recoup says that 72% of HDPE plastic milk bottles consumed and collected in the UK were recycled in 2009. The report showed an increase on 2008’s figure of 57%. It’s estimated that 119,000 tonnes were consumed last year in the UK. Of this total, 86,790 tonnes were collected for recycling. James Crick, business development director at UK plastic bottle manufacturer Nampak, says that increase in availability of recylced material will support that drive although he urged the industry to continue to drive the recycling levels to more than 72%.
