Last year, Arla Foods purchased Nijkerk dairy in the Netherlands from FrieslandCampina. In the last 12 months the plant has continued to produce its well-known “Breaker” children’s drinking yogurt products as well as fresh milk products under the Friessche Vlag label (licensed from FrieslandCampina until 2018) – and introduced Arla dairy products.

Reports from the specialist press in Westphalia, the German state nearest the Dutch border and the Nijkerk plant, say retailers there are now being offered milk products from the Arla-owned plant. It is understood that the Swedish dairy aims to use Nijkerk as a launching pad for dairy product sales in Germany.

Many of the products will be selling directly in competition to FrieslandCampina (and Danone) yogurts, dairy drinks and milk. Part of the Nijkerk sales agreement in spring 2009 was a guarantee to Arla that FrieslandCampina would ensure deliveries of fresh Dutch milk to the plant up until 2017.
Nijkerk dairy turnover for 2008 was EUR240 million.
