Oystar is planning to double the manufacturing base of its Hassia Packaging subsidiary in India to target the growing processed dairy sector in the country. At its location in Pune, India, an expansion plan that will double its capacity in the country to a space of 4,033 square meters has begun.

India is expected to post GDP growth of eight per cent this year, notes Oystar. and government estimates suggest this will increase to double digit levels in a couple of years.

As the economy grows, the packaged and branded food sector is expanding along with demand for processing and packaging equipment. “Processing in the dairy segment is increasing with the introduction of branded yogurt, cheese and other such products,” according to the company.

To meet the higher demand, Oystar is increasing its workforce in India as well as its physical capacity. Hassia Packaging currently employs 70 people and expects to hire 30 more as work is completed.

Hassia Packaging, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Oystar group, became operational in India in 2000. It manufactures packaging machines for the food and chemical industries from its facilities in Pune. These include machines for filling and sealing preformed cups as well as plants with volumetric and load filling systems for filling products into pouches and bags, glass, cups and cans, with ranges between 25g and 50kg.
