Zott competing with Allgauland
Zott dairy is upping the ante in an effort to get more milk suppliers on board.
In the area around Wangen, Germany, the traditional collector of milk is the Allgauland Kaserei, a five-plant processor producing around 150,000 tonnes of drinking milk, yogurts and desserts per year along with 33,000 tonnes of cheeses. But last year the milk payments were two to three cents per litre below the annual average paid to farmers by leading yogurt and cheese specialist Zott.
Zott needs more suppliers to meet demand and has been planning information events deep in Allgauland country promoting the dairy and the superior prices it is ready to pay farmers.
Around 900 Allgauland farmers have already shown an interest in the Zott offer. Faced with the prospect of losing a large number of suppliers, Allgauland has applied for a court restraint to stop the recruiting events.
