Weihenstephan launches stopper for spilled milk

Bavarian dairy Weihenstephan believes that around 12 million litres of UHT milk are going to waste each year in Germany due to it being spilled when poured out of the carton.

Despite the breakthrough of screwtop lids, extensive tests by the dairy indicate that there is still often an uncontrollable and uneven surge of milk when pouring from cartons that can lead to disaster. The 12 million lost litres may only be 0.5% of the total 2,300m litres of UHT drinking milk bought every year by German consumers, but Weihenstephan regards it as a waste that can no longer be afforded and has cooperated with Tetra Pak to design what is claimed as the first truly
