Gruyere production could be hit by strike
Swiss milk producers selling to dairies making Gruyere cheese say they will stop deliveries mid-September should they fail to get a price rise equivalent to €0.06 per litre.
This would take the producer price up to €0.62 eurocents per litre. Already, some 200 upland producers for Gruyere cheese have responded to a call from the farmers union, Uniterre, and say they need the extra income to stay in business.
