Germany has appetite for cheese imports

While German consumption of cheese drops a little for the first time in years, the country’s appetite for imported cheeses has not waned with latest figures from Swiss exporters confirming that just over 11,600 tonnes of their cheeses were shipped north of the border in 2007.

That’s 6.4% more than the previous year. As usual Appenzeller Switzerland topped the German popularity polls with over 4,200 tonnes sold. Next most popular was Emmental with just over 3,400 tonnes bought in Germany followed by Le Gruy
