The EU will begin levying tax on Swiss products containing powdered skim milk as part of a free trade agreement with Switzerland.

The tax is part of a price equalising method agreed between Switzerland and the EU. Under the deal, Switzerland has until now subsidised the export of powdered skim milk to the EU because prices are typically higher in Switzerland. However, powdered milk is now more expensive in the EU than in Switzerland, triggering the tax.
