Farmer feels his way in online video

A dairy farmer from Cornwall has become an internet sensation after starring in a series of new online videos produced by Trewithen Dairy in the UK. One video in particular, which is entitled ‘Moosual Suspects’ and currently displayed on the Trewithen Dairy website, www.trewithendairy.co.uk, features farmer Peter Blake undertaking an unusual challenge.
Most farmers know their cows individually and many give each of them names, but how many can confidently say they can tell their cows apart whilst wearing a blindfold? In this tongue-in-cheek video, Blake of Stone Farm manages to correctly identify a line-up of five cows by the distinctive shape of their udders and hind quarters, www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZrQdlOWNgc.
The filming was done last year and forms part of a content strategy that Trewithen is rolling out across its social media platforms. Trewithen Dairy is pioneering the use of social media to raise awareness of its products and ethos, as well as a method of engaging directly with customers and suppliers. Trewithen Dairy produces and distributes a range of milk, butter, yogurt and Cornish clotted cream.
Stone Farm is located near Whitsand Bay in Cornwall. It produces 6,000 litres of milk a day for Trewithen Dairy. Blake says, “I very much enjoyed filming the video and was pleasantly surprised at how well it has been received online. I would generally swear blind that I know each of my cows apart from one another but I’ve never tried to identify them by touch alone before! When I was put on the spot like that it was actually quite nerve-wracking, but I’m glad that I managed to do it in the end.
