Organic milk claims higher omega 3 content

On the back of Dairy Crest’s launch of St Ivel advance, and Marks & Spencer’s Supermilk brand which is produced by feeding cattle oily fish remains, the Organic Milk Suppliers Co-operative (OMSCo) is proclaiming its own milk to be naturally higher in omega 3 alpha-linolenic fatty acids.

The co-op puts this down to the natural diet of organic cows which includes more red clover. Organic farmers use higher levels of clover as an alternative to using synthetic chemical fertilisers. In addition to yielding higher levels of omega 3, organic milk is also claimed to contain higher natural levels of vitamin E and antioxidants.
