UK РThe workforce at the Nestlĩ chilled desserts factory in Staverton, Wiltshire, which is campaigning against the closure of the plant, has been given the support of a leading French trade union.

Confederation Francaise Democratique du Travail (CFDT) gave the workers its backing at a meeting of the International Food Workers union (IUF) executive in Geneva.

The Transport and General Workers union (T&G), which is orchestrating the anti-closure campaign, received a letter from the CFDT condemning Nestle’s continued “destruction of employment” and the impact it was having on the workforce and their families.

The CFDT has also made representations to Nestle’s top French management. “This is fantastic support from our French colleagues,” said Brian Revell, the T&G national organiser for food and agriculture.
