Fonterra applauds new trade agreement

NEW ZEALAND/CHINA – Fonterra has spoken out to applaud its government’s efforts to establish a free trade agreement (FTA) with China.

Chairman Henry van der Hayden said Fonterra was a strong supporter of a comprehensive FTA with China, and was pleased by the progress towards a trade and economic framework between the countries in such a short period of time.

He commented that a free trade agreement would underpin Fonterra’s partnership approach to the Chinese dairy industry, and ensure improved access for the company to one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

Now the framework is complete, it is expected that negotiations on a comprehensive FTA will get underway early next year.
