There will be a solution for dairy farmers who have not yet found buyers for their milk following the bankruptcy of the Berlin Milk-importing Company (BMG). After the insolvency of BMG, 900,000 tons of milk had to find new customers at short notice.

German minister of agriculture Julia Klöckner and president of the Raiffeisen Association (DRV) Franz-Josef Holzenkamp have agreed that dairies connected to DRV will take over the milk from these farmers. “I am very pleased that the dairy industry shows solidarity and will house most of the milk,” says the minister. So far, however, the total loss cannot be compensated.

“That’s why I talked to the president of the German Raiffeisen Association and I’m very happy that Franz-Josef Holzenkamp has assured me that the co-operative dairies in the German Raiffeisen Association will act in solidarity.

The dairies will do everything in their power to help the farmers concerned in this exceptional situation,” says Klöckner.

Dairy farmers who are still looking for dairies can contact the DRV.
