Australia invests in industry leaders

AUSTRALIA – A scheme to invest in the dairy industry’s future leaders has been launched this week to run in 2003.

Called the ‘Advance In’ programme, it is supported by the Dairy Research and Development Corporation (DRDC) and requires participants to design and implement an industry project with the support of a mentor.

Involving participants from all sectors of the industry, the initiative is designed to encourage industry members to take a whole-of-industry approach to issues. A similar course ran in 2002 with representatives from extension, farming, research and processing all taking part.

The DRDC has also reported that environmental sustainability and bioscience technologies are key priorities of the Australian dairy industry. According to its latest annual report, investment in research and development continues to deliver benefits of AUD$3.20 (
