Weihenstephen being restructured in Germany
“Radical changes” are being forecast by market experts in Germany for the country’s oldest dairy, the tradition-rich Weihenstephan concern which claims 1000 years of dairy processing from its premises outside Munich. The concern was taken over by Muller Milk as part of a consortium in 2000 and 10 years later Muller took full control of the Bavarian dairy, by which time a daily production of 380,000 litres of drinking milk and 320,000 pots of yogurt in Weihenstephan’s distinctive blue-white packaging was being claimed. Now, the Muller Aretsried headquarters say the business is to be restructured, with all yogurt production transferred to Muller facilities elsewhere. Weihenstephan will continue to produce and package pasteurised and UHT drinking milks as well as butter and cream, says Muller.
A statement also noted that there would be changes in the staffing numbers coming soon, too. Currently around 250 people are employed by Weihenstephan. Meanwhile, Weihenstephan managing director Frank Schubel announced he was leaving the company immediately.
