Dean Foods secures huge ice cream contract

USA &#8211, Dean Foods is to manufacture ice cream for Baskin-Robbins’ franchised retail outlets in a deal worth over $85 million (90m euro).

Dean Foods believes the arrangement is an effective way of using its existing production capacity while extending its distribution reach from coast to coast. Howard Dean, chairman and CEO of the company, said: “With this expansion we have truly become a national ice cream player. We intend to leverage this capability to support continued growth of our regional ice cream brands and to further execute our national ice cream business strategy.”

Production will be carried out at four ice cream factories in California, New Mexico, Alabama and Illinois.

Dean Foods processes and distributes a range of dairy products including liquid milk, ice cream and extended shelf life products. Baskin-Robbins makes and markets premium ice cream, frozen desserts and beverages in over 4,400 outlets worldwide.
