Microbial risk management group Celsis International has begun a test market evaluation of a new disposable hygiene monitoring test.
The company says it is working on the project with several major food manufacturers and retailers worldwide. Among the participants is Milk Marque, the UK’s largest dairy co-operative, which is working with member farmers to evaluate the Celsis test as a method of assuring quality of raw milk. In the US, meanwhile, Kraft Foods is evaluating the test as an alternative to traditional hygiene testing methods.
The patented test under scrutiny is a device no bigger than a ball point pen. It contains a reagentry which develops an easily assessed colour change in minutes if contamination is present. With its disposable format, the test eliminates the need for instrumentation.
