Massive co-operative Friesland Coberco Dairy Foods and fellow Dutch food and beverage group Koninklijke Wessanen are discussing a merger which would create Europes largest cheese company.
It is likely the European Commission and the Dutch government will examine any proposals carefully, as any link-up would effectively introduce a duopoly to the already highly concentrated Dutch dairy market. In many categories, only Campina Melkunie would be able to compete effectively.
