New year, some ideas

The year 2025 has arrived and with it a prospect of change. As is usual this time of year, we’ve been combing through the internet to find some of the items that are of interest to our readers. In this newsletter, we have done a roundup of the top stories you clicked on in 2024. Going forward, here below are just a few items that have come up while the holidays have been happening. I do predict for 2025, that the dairy industry will continue to be interesting this year.
Ireland’s Kerry Group plc has completed phase one of its sale of Kerry Dairy Ireland to Kerry Co-Operative Creameries for €500 million. Canadian dairy giant Saputo for its part has seen its chief operating officer, Frank Guido, step down at the end of 2024, with Carl Colizza, president and CEO, assuming his duties in the short term .
Rabobank, meanwhile, is predicting that globally, farmgate prices will continue to increase, as trade increases and the Big 7 producers return to higher milk production.
Over in Australia, Pure Dairy is set to start production at its Dandenong South facility in April, which will produce mozzarella, cheddar and speciality cheese at its 13,000 square metre site. (www.diaa.asn.au).
Another thing to look forward to this month in the UK is the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board’s (AHDB) Let’s Eat Balanced marketing campaign, which has returned through 31 January, to promote the exceptional taste, flavours and nutritional benefits of lean meat and dairy, as part of a varied and balanced diet.
Let’s Eat Balanced showcases British beef, lamb, and dairy as natural sources of essential nutrients such as protein and vitamin B12, which helps to reduce fatigue. Consumer reactions were positive for the 2024 version of this campaign, AHDB notes.
We look forward to another year of serving the sector, and don’t forget our Expo in October. It promises to be an event not to miss!
