Spring is here and thoughts turn to green things

We have had a week of sun and dry here in the UK, meaning the allotment has been calling us, as well as the back garden. I also managed to buy two mini greenhouses from a local German supermarket discounter, as the ones we purchased several years ago were pummelled by the squirrels and so the top plastic windows were destroyed. Anti-squirrel measures are being put in place to protect the new greenhouses.
In the sun, I saw the first ice cream van of the season as well. Seems the UK Ice Cream Alliance’s show was just a few weeks ago (it was), and already the new season wares are out and about on the streets. I did not indulge, although it was quite tempting.
Spring also reminds me of the shows we are attending – the IFE at Excel in London next week (17-19 March), and the Society of Dairy Technology‘s Spring Conference in the Midlands, 27 March. Both promise to be very fruitful and interesting.
I am sure people will also be attending the European Dairy Association’s Policy Conference in Brussels on 26 March – which we are covering, although I won’t be there in person. Which is sad as the amazing European cheeses buffet alone is worth the visit, never mind the very good speaker lineup. I will console myself by eating PDO Stilton up north.
Meanwhile, work continues on our Expo, set for the autumn, 29-30 October at NAEC Stoneleigh. We have some exhibitor news on our website www.dairyindustriesexpo.com, including LC Packaging, which offers modified atmosphere packaging for FIBCs, for powders to reach the market without spoiling. This is along with SGS, the training, certification and inspection company. Fristam Pumps is also set to join us at the show for the first time, with its selection of hygienic pumps and powder mixers. Don’t miss out, register for your free entry.
