Last week, it was World School Milk Day on 24 September, an annual international event where the global community highlights the health and social benefits of drinking milk in schools. The event began 25 years ago, launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and is celebrated in more than 30 countries each year. It shines a spotlight on the importance of milk in children’s diets, providing calcium, protein and vitamins to support healthy growth and development. It adds educational and socioeconomic benefits as well.
In the UK, schools were visited by Mr Bloom from Cbeebies, along with a competition to design a milk bottle. The schools are where good habits are formed, including enjoying dairy, and getting safe, reasonably priced nutrition for growing people and our future.
Next up is World Food Day on 19 October, which recognises the important of safe, healthy food for the global community. As it is the FAO’s 80th anniversary, there will be a ceremony in Rome, as well as the opening of the Food and Agriculture Museum and Network there. Plus a week of seminars and events to highlight the need for safe, nutritious food.
It promises to be quite enlightening: https://www.fao.org/world-food-day/events/global-events/en
Last but not least, we are putting the finishing touches on our October show preview issue, which will be at the Dairy Industries Expo at NAEC Stoneleigh on 29-30 October. Now that I have the topics, I think the seminars are just going to be so interesting and informative, I can’t wait to hear them in person. Plus, the many exhibitors that will be showcasing their products and services specifically for the dairy industry. It is an event not to be missed, and if you’re in dairy, it’s your show. From milk to market, we cover the entire supply chain for our sector.
