Organic milk sales faltering in Germany
While retail sales of most organically produced foods in Germany soar, some milk products are still struggling to achieve increased market shares according to latest information from market researchers ACNielsen.
With total retail sales of organic foods soaring by 40% in 2007 (a 100% increase compared with 2005) vegetable juice sales were now just short of capturing 30% of the entire market for such products in Germany, according to ACNielsen.
But organic yogurts and quarks remain firmly below the 5% mark in market share and organic butter has only 2.3% of the entire butter market, which is actually slightly less than the 2006 figure. The market researchers reckon that the situation could have been even worse than this but for selling campaigns of own label organic foods launched by the major discounters including Aldi. These have substantially boosted sales of all organically produced foods in Germany including the dairy lines.
