Agropur to buy Trega Foods

Leading Canadian dairy co-operative Agropur is to buy Wisconsin, US-based cheese maker Trega Foods for an undisclosed amount to further expand its presence in America.

Agropur, Canada’s largest dairy co-operative, says the acquisition will allows it to reinforce its position on the North American and international dairy scene.
“We are increasing our presence in the United States and this business transaction is in direct link with our development strategy,” notes CEO Pierre Claprood.
Trega will continue to operate under current management and will keep its name. The company has three facilities and 300 employees making cheese and whey products including cheddar, Feta, Mozzarella and Provolone as well as dairy ingredients with annual sales of $300 million (
