The British Cheese Awards is making its new home at the Royal Bath and West Show in 2014, according to Alan Lyons, show manager. “This is a fantastic coup for the Show and is a really exciting development. The Royal Bath and West has been a promoter of cheese throughout its history, setting up the country’s first cheese school in Wells in 1889 and having these awards here continues the tradition of being at the forefront of excellence.”

The National Cheese Awards have been held at the Royal Bath and West Show for a number of years, with a strong focus on Britain’s great traditional cheese and cheddar. The joining forces with British Cheese Awards will broaden the schedule and range of entries and highlight the explosion in the number and diversity of modern British cheese’s now made with cow, goat, sheep and even buffalo milk.

Juliet Harbutt, Awards founder, adds: “This is a coming together of two great events with shared goals to raise the profile of British cheese, reward excellence in the industry and to educate and inspire the consumers. I am really excited about working with the team at Bath & West and believe that together we can create a dynamic event that will help us achieve our goals and raise the profile of British cheese.”

The British Cheese Awards  saw 908 entries from 183 British and Irish cheese makers in 2013.  The 21st Awards will be held the day before the Bath & West show on Tuesday 27 May with the judging in the morning .
