National Foods of Australia is purchasing Tasmania-based cheesemaker Lactos.

The dairy’s French owner, Bongrain, acquired Lactos in the early 80s from its founder, Milan Vyhnalek, who established the business in 1955. The cheesemaker is best known for its Tasmanian heritage brands.
Completion of the transaction is dependent on government approval.
National Foods is a subsidiary of the Philippines company San Miguel.
