More capacity in Austria

Austrian dairies are adding capacity in advance of the EU quota system being removed next year. SalzburgMilch started installing its latest plant recently, and Nöm (Niederösterreichische Molkerei) is expanding its operations at Baden for opening in early 2015.
Part of the plan is that when the bigger plant in Baden is ready next year, the Nöm plant in Hartberg will close its doors. Production of fresh cheese and curd will move to the new facility, which is costing €12 million to build. It will provide around 2,600 sq uare metres of production facilities.
The milk that is currently supplied to Hartberg is to be divided so one part goes to Baden and another part goes to a Prolactal (a milk and dried whey products company) plant in Hartberg. The relocation of production will be done gradually in 2015.
To be ready, Nöm had already renovated its laboratory this summer. The laboratory now meets the increasingly stringent audit requirements – for example the strict spatial separation of chemical and microbiological laboratories. It will also be able to cope with the production growth in Baden.
