Goats milk gets Britain’s attention

Goats’ milk, cheese, yogurt and butter is becoming so popular with consumers that farmers are struggling to keep up with demand.

It is estimated there are now at least 91,000 goats in Britain, around 17,000 more than four years ago. Farmers have also discovered that goats are more profitable to keep than cows. While the both types of milk cost the same to produce, farmers can receive at least 30p per litre for goats’ milk as opposed to as little as 17p or 18p for cow’s milk.
Demand for goats’ milk at Tesco has risen by 28% in the past year. Sales of goat butter have risen by 31%, yogurt 23% and cheese 16%. Dairy foods manager Sheila Gallagher, said:
