Milk and diabetes link
AUSTRALIA – Following reports about an Australian study which tested a theory that a protein found in cows’ milk could trigger the development of type-1 diabetes, Dairy Australia has provided further information for worried consumers.
According to Dairy Australia, the link between cows’ milk-based infant formula to type-1 diabetes is as yet unproven and was initially based on research conducted in Scandinavia.
A Dairy Australia statement said: “We urge parents not to make drastic decisions relating to what their children eat – consult an expert first – there are far too many beneficial nutrients in milk for it to be discarded without good reason.”
