Ice cream maestro Domenico Manfredi has been voted the UK’s national champion ice cream maker. The accolade comes as his family firm, Smiths Creamland Ices in Clay Cross, Derbyshire celebrates 60 years in business.

“Our ice creams have been winning awards for more than 50 years but to judged to be the best in the UK is an unbelievable honour,” says Manfredi.

“I’ve been making ice cream since 1954 and I have always held true to my principles of using the best natural and local ingredients to produce a great tasting ice cream. This year we are celebrating 60 years in business and there could be no better way to start the celebrations than by becoming national ice cream champion. We are all very excited,” he continues.

Zelica Carr, ICA chief executive officer, says Domenico’s achievement was outstanding. “Domenico has produced high quality ice cream throughout his career and his dedication and consistency can been seen in his outstanding record. Now to be judged the best ice cream maker in the UK, against such strong competition, is an exceptional achievement,” she explains.
