German goat rise
GERMANY – French trade delegation Ubifrance has said that goats cheese sales are rocketing in Germany.
Ubifrance claims that France is gaining most from the trend. Goats cheese sales in Germany doubled in 2003 compared with the previous year, with 4,770 tonnes sold.
This does not take into account another 1,500 tonnes of cheeses made from goats’ milk mixed with other milks.
French goat cheese producers now supply about 50% of the German market, exporting almost 3% of the total annual 80.000 tonnes of production.
