SWITZERLAND – The liberalisation of volume and price control in the production of Emmental cheese has lead to a ruinous price war in Switzerland, according to Swiss producer Emmi.

It believes that the price war has led to a 25% fall in the price of the cheese in the last two years alone, and is now planning to make moves to stop the accelerating price fall.

One way to achieve this, the company believes, is to put emphasis back on Emmental as a quality product, with a volume that meets the volume requirements.
