Tetra Pak defends itself over Parmalat affair
SWEDEN- Tetra Pak has responded to rumours in the Italian and Swedish media that suggest it made payments directly to the Tanzi family.
The reports allege that Tetra Pak paid one third of its marketing support payment in 2002 directly to the Tanzi family, which owned Parmalat. The company said that this was completely false, as the payees carried the Parmalat name.
In a statement, Tetra Pak said that its chief executive Nick Shreiber was not aware that the company’s payments were being used, allegedly, for private purposes by Parmalat’s chief executive Carlo Tanzi or anyone else. It said that all payments were made to companies mentioned in Parmalat’s instructions to Tetra Pak.
