EUROPE – The intense heat and drought that has hit Europe over the last 12 weeks has led to a warning that price rises for dairy products containing fruit are imminent.

The news comes from Milchindustrie-Verbande (MIV), the German milk industry association, which says that retail prices for fruit yogurts, milk drinks and quarks could be up by 5% this month, despite the supermarket price wars.

For Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands this would mean that 150g of strawberry yogurt could cost as much as 45 cents, with 500g jars of premium fruit yogurt selling for between 90 cents and
