Too little money in the pot

German yogurt pot manufacturers are campaigning for more money from dairies.
Without divulging actual figures, national plastic packaging industry association spokesman Karlheinz Knauer claims that, in real terms, the price of raw materials has risen by 20% over the last five years.
Even counting savings being made through continual weight reduction of the containers (500g pots have dropped from 13g to 11.5g since 1994), real income per shipment is reckoned to have fallen by almost 10% since 1991.
The industry in Germany now warns that many manufacturers of plastic packaging find themselves in a position which demands price rises for their products in the near future.
