Nampak drops weight on milk bottle design
Dairy packaging manufacturer Nampack of the UK has completed a EUR1.16 million, two-year project to lose up to one-fifth of a bottle’s weight for dairy packaging, the company says. The new Infini bottle offers an average weight saving across the one to four pint and two litre formats of 15 per cent. The six-pint bottle will see a 21 per cent reduction in weight. The lightweighting was achieved via the use of an octagonal structure in the packagewalls, which let the walls be thinner yet retain their strength.
Before this, Nampack had manageda 10 per cent reduction in weight, and this new package allows a further 11 per cent drop. The new packages are due to be released this summer. The firm is also working on increasd recycled content, it notes.
