The British Society of Animal Science (BSAS) is bringing together leading
researchers, nutritionists, and industry professionals for the BSAS Dairy Nutrition Conference 2026, taking place 14–15 January at the Mercure Hotel, Telford.

The two-day event will deliver the latest science and evidence-based practice in dairy cow nutrition, with sessions designed to update knowledge and enhance on-farm performance across the full production cycle – from the heifer through to the dry and lactating cow.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Professor Alastair Macrae (University of Edinburgh) – Nutrition to mitigate peri-parturient diseases
  • Michael Smith (AB Vista) – Developing calibrations for forage analysis
  • Vicky Phillips (Apheya) – Labelling dos and definitely do nots
  • Pete Falloon (Met OƯice) – Adapting to changing weather
  • Nick Wheelhouse (University of Edinburgh Napier / FSA) – Authorising feed additives

The conference programme features sessions on forage and feed analysis, practical heifer management, dry cow nutrition, and updates on labelling and authorisation regulations, alongside insights into climate adaptation and the often-overlooked importance of water as a nutrient.

Delegates will also enjoy opportunities for networking and discussion during the Drinks Reception and Dinner on the first evening.

Helen Warren, BSAS President and Alltech, said:

“The BSAS Dairy Nutrition Conference brings together science and practice to support those working at the forefront of dairy production. With new research, changing regulations, and ongoing environmental pressures, this event helps nutritionists and producers make informed, sustainable decisions.”

David Wilde, BSAS Trustee, emphasised the importance of holding the conference at the start of the year:

“January is a crucial planning period for producers, nutritionists and feed companies. Starting the year with the latest research, clear regulatory guidance and practical feeding recommendations helps the whole sector make informed decisions for the season ahead. This conference gives people the evidence base they need right at the point when they’re setting priorities for the year.”

The event is aimed at nutritionists, consultants, feed manufacturers, veterinarians, and producers keen to keep pace with the latest advances and recommendations in dairy nutrition and management.
