65 jobs to go as dairy companies restructure
More than 60 jobs look set to go after Arla Foods and North Milk Co-operative agreed to sell Claymore Dairies to a management buyout team based at the Nairn facility in Scotland.
The processing of local milk in the area is now expected to be secured after a steady decline in raw milk volumes had threatened closure.
If the proposal gets the go ahead, Arla will transfer some of the retail milk volume from Claymore to Lockerbie. It will also open a distribution centre in Dundee to service its retail customers that are based in the Highlands. Around 65 jobs will be lost at Nairn dairy, while around 20 new roles will be created at both Dundee and Lockerbie.
The company is seeking volunteers for redundancy, but staff affected at Nairn would be eligible to apply for the new posts in Dundee and Lockerbie or elsewhere within Arla.
