Milk shortage sparks dairy price rise fears

Dairy products are expected to go up in price this autumn due to an impending milk shortage, farmers have warned.

The increasing cost of keeping cattle, coupled with falling prices at the supermarket, has lead to a 46% fall in the number of UK dairy farmers in the last ten years.
Wet weather has also affected production as cattle kept indoors on silage produce less than when they are put out to grass.
The news coincides with DairyCo figures showing that, by the end of August, daily milk production was running at around 1.9 million litres below the three-year average
