South Africa invites world dairy to summit

South Africa has a population of close to 50 million people. Geographically, it is situated at the southern most tip of Africa, with a Sub-Saharan population of one billion. The country is seen as the economic powerhouse of Africa, with regard to both its industrial and agricultural capabilities. This makes it one of the only countries in Africa with the necessary agricultural and agro processing infrastructure to provide for its own needs and also export to other continents, of which Africa is one of the fastest growing markets.

The production of raw milk for further processing has increased by 30% in the last eight years, according to official statistics. Despite this, the average per capita dairy consumption in South Africa and Africa remains far below the international average. This is mainly the result of the fact that a huge sector of the population was previously excluded from economic activity, but is now joining the economic main stream. Combined with a very well organised South African dairy industry with clearly defined goals and objectives, this is leading to a continuous increase in demand for dairy and related products. The natural agricultural environment in Southern Africa and certain parts of South Africa can lead to substantial increases in the supply of raw milk.

I believe that participation in the 2012 World Dairy Summit, the most important event on the calendar of the International Dairy Federation, will create excellent exposure for potential sponsors and the opportunity to position themselves asĀ  leaders in the South African and Southern African dairy industries. Your support will create the necessary confidence with other stakeholders to ensure a firm foundation for future expansion and growth.

On behalf of the South African National Committee of the IDF, I thank you for your potential participation and sponsorship, and anticipate that we will receive a positive response from you. Multiple benefits will accrue for us all as a result.
