Consolidation for SalzburgMilch in Austria
There are major changes afoot in the dairy sector around Salzburg in Austria. Following the fusion of Alpenmilch Salzburg and the Käsehof dairy into the new company SalzburgMilch, it is now learnt that all four of the present cheese production, maturing and packing facilities are to be concentrated into a single Cheese Competence Centre near Salzburg. The €45 million, 20,000 square metre greenfield site plant will have an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes of cheese when it opens in late 2014. SalzburgMilch expects a turnover of €170 million this year, with 45% of this earned through exports.
