Trouble in Fiji
The Fijian government intervened in a dispute between the Fiji Co-operative Dairy and the Fiji Dairy Company over the price of milk paid to farmers, which has been ongoing since 2011. Prices were to be determined by the a milk supply agreement that has not been signed to date. Tomasi Tunabuna, the government’s director of animal health and production, says they will bring both parties together to sort out their differences. Fiji has 264 dairy farmers and is importing $70 million (€28m) of dairy products a year.
