SalzburgMilch Werk 2 plant has started test runs. It is one of the most modern cheese dairies in Europe.  It opened one year after the building of the new plant in Lamprechthausen in Austria.

“The location of the plant is in the middle of Flachgau to the north of Salzburg, which is an area with a large milk volume, so the transport routes are kept as short as possible,” SalzburgMilch CEO Christian Leeb says. The plant is also SalzburgMilch’s cheese competence centre, where it will produce, mature and pack semi-soft and hard cheeses. Six different types of milk will also be processed there with full traceability of all products.

When the plant is up and running at full speed, the capacity will be 15,000 tons of cheese. A wide assortment of different cheeses, from mild-fine to strong and spicy and cheeses will be delivered in different shapes or as slices as of 2 September. The company will also announce a new package look for the SalzburgMilch cheese range.

SalzburgMilch started in 2013 due to a merger between Alpenmilch Salzburg and Käsehof. Some €50 million was invested in planning and construction of the cheese factory, which is a 20,000 square metre building and will have 100 people working there.

Last year SalzburgMilch generated sales of €172.5 million. This year sales are expected to exceed €180 million.
