In one of the largest single investments by Nestle in Germany for many years, the international concern has freed-up some EUR117 million for renovation and expansion of its Biessenhofen baby nutrition plant in Franconia. The plant is being prepared for an exciting new product, says Nestle, which can be fed without problems to babies with allergies to conventional milk-based diets. Current output of conventional baby food is around 14,000 tonnes according to Nestle. The company says that it plans to double this after the renovation work. The rebuilding includes new production lines, state-of-the-art laboratory and extra storage plus a 40 metre high spray-drying tower.
