The cheese novelty
Cute cheese. This is what I nearly purchased recently when I went to the local supermarket. Arla’s Castello cheese brand has come out with a five-pack of little cheeses, all neatly packaged – including its Castello Creamy Blue and the Black Pepper Halo flavour. However, it was Bongrain’s Saint Agur with its dipper breadsticks and creamy blue cheese spread that actually made it into the basket. Also cute, but a bit more practical for office consumption. That being said, I am definitely snaffling up those Castello minis when I next have a cheeseboard. I find small children appreciate cheese in miniature, and these new products are a welcome addition to the world of the kiddy range of cream cheese flavours with breadsticks and string cheese.
Marketers such as Dairy Crest with Cathedral City’s Chedds and the abovementioned Arla and Bongrain are getting savvy to the idea that sometimes it is not how much cheese you sell, but how you sell the cheese. Getting children to like and enjoy cheese is a no-brainer and these products can launch a lifelong appreciation of one of the finer products available.
I think adults would also enjoy a small portion of cheese in these formats as well. I know I do.
