Getting real about milk

Good news from the US this week, about the Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP) launching a website to set the record straight about the science behind milk. They launched it with a one-day event, “Get real about milk,” and have a website, MilkTruth.com, where consumers can learn the facts and science about milk. I myself think the little cow that loads up the next page is adorable. It has articles from a range of publications on the benefits of milk.

I think it also does a good job of explaining to the public that milk good for you, not easily replaced in the diet and loaded with nutrients. It also discusses the farm to table aspect of dairy, which people often overlook. Milk is your local farmer at work. Want to support local industry? Drink milk.

It is all packaged quite nicely on the website. As we all know, lies have run around the world while truth is getting its running shoes on, and dairy suffers from this as much as any industry. Even today I opened up a US website and came across an article on why adults should not be drinking milk. It was supposed to humorous but I just thought, aaaaargh. It does go to show that unfortunately, in this day of the internet age, that we have to remain vigilant and get our very good, healthy story across to consumers. We can never let up on this. Kudos to Milk PEP for keeping it going.
