Greenpeace takes another swipe
GERMANY – A Greenpeace document called “Shopping Advisor” cites 250 dairy labels on German retail shelves as offering little or no guarantee that they do not stem from cows fed with genetically modified (GM) feed components.
Only 47 dairy labels were selected by the organisation as “Definitely allowing no GM originated feed components to be used in the production of the milk they process and market.” The Greenpeace campaign gained prominence at Berlin’s Green Week food fair in January and has provoked sharp reaction from some processors. Germany dairy industry body Milchindustrie-Verband (MIV) said that Greenpeace had “paid no attention to important scientific facts” in its campaign to steer the public away from purchasing milk and milk products from certain dairy companies.
A range of major dairies has come under attack in the latest campaign including Danone, Nordmilch’s Adelbyer label, Arla Foods Deutschland and Campina.
